Fridge Planner: a month of meals on one sheet of paper

A printed calendar for May 2025 with lunch and dinner written in every day

Fridge Planner is a small iOS app to plan lunch and dinner for a whole month, then print it and put it on the fridge. I built it for the May 2025 open-source challenge, and it replaces paper or Excel planners with an app.

From proof of concept to the fridge

The first commit was on May 15. Six days later, on May 21, I wrote this commit message:

I think this should be more or less the proof of concept of what I need

The photo above was taken that same day: the first month, printed from the app. The next day the project got its name: it started as MealPlanner, and became Fridge Planner.

What it does

  • A monthly calendar with lunch and dinner for every day. You can have more than one lunch or dinner on the same day.
  • A meal library that fills itself. Every meal you type is saved, with separate lists for lunch and dinner, so next month you just pick them again.
  • A PDF to print. It generates a black and white A4 page with the whole month.
  • Offline. Everything is stored on your phone, with SQLite.

The first two weeks of fixes

The commits from the next two weeks are mostly about the printed page:

  • The PDF could sometimes show a different month than the one you selected. Fixed.
  • You can now choose a custom decoration for the PDF.
  • If a day has too much text, the font gets smaller until it fits.
  • The default font size for meals in the PDF is smaller.
  • A separator line between weeks in the calendar.
  • You can set the background color and border size of the selected day.
  • Dark mode colors are fixed.

What’s next

On the list: duplicate the previous month to start faster, swap meals between days, and add notes to a day.
